Wrap-around Molding

Carbon fiber composite material is a kind of multi-phase material compounded by carbon fiber reinforcing material and matrix material through a certain process, which has the advantages of light weight, high strength, good rigidity, corrosion resistance, etc. It is widely used in the fields of aerospace, automobile, sports equipment, and so on. The commonly used molding processes include the following five, which are prepreg molding, RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) molding, compression molding, winding molding and pultrusion molding.

Wrap-around Molding

Winding molding is a process in which carbon fiber reinforcing material is wound on a mandrel to form a product, which is commonly used to manufacture tubular or columnar composite products.

1.Process Flow

  • Preparation of the mandrel: Prepare a suitable mandrel according to the shape and size of the product.
  • Fiber Winding: Carbon fiber reinforcing material is wound onto the mandrel through winding equipment.
  • Curing treatment: Curing treatment is carried out on the wound products to solidify the resin matrix.

2.The Advantage

  • Controllable fiber orientation: control of fiber orientation can be achieved by winding.
  • High strength of products: Higher fiber content and better mechanical properties can be obtained.
  • Suitable for specific shapes: Particularly suitable for the manufacture of tubular or cylindrical products.

3.The Disadvantage

  • Large investment in equipment: Specialized winding equipment and mandrels are required.
  • Restricted product size: Limited by the size of the core mold, not applicable to large products.
