Molding Processes

Carbon fiber composite material is a kind of multi-phase material compounded by carbon fiber reinforcing material and matrix material through a certain process, which has the advantages of light weight, high strength, good rigidity, corrosion resistance, etc. It is widely used in the fields of aerospace, automobile, sports equipment, and so on. The commonly used molding processes include the following five, which are prepreg molding, RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) molding, compression molding, winding molding and pultrusion molding.

Molding Processes

Molding process is to put a certain amount of prepreg into the metal mold to the mold cavity, the use of press with a heat source to produce a certain temperature and pressure, after closing the mold under a certain temperature and pressure so that the prepreg in the mold cavity by heat softening, pressure flow, full of flow, filled with mold mold molding and curing, so as to obtain a composite material products of a process method.

1.Process flow

  • Mixed material: Carbon fiber reinforcing material is mixed with resin matrix.
  • Filling the mold: Fill the mold with the mixed material.
  • Heating and Pressurization: The mold is heated and a certain pressure is applied to cure and shape the material.
  • Demolding: After the product is cured, demold and take it out.

2.The Advantage

  • High production efficiency: suitable for mass production and faster molding speed.
  • Stable product performance: it can ensure the consistency and stability of the products.
  • Relatively low cost: small investment in molds and equipment.

3.The Disadvantage

  • Restricted product shapes: Difficulty in manufacturing products with complex shapes.
  • Carbon fiber orientation is not easy to control: the orientation of the fiber is relatively difficult to accurately control.
