RTM MOLDING

Carbon fiber composite material is a kind of multi-phase material compounded by carbon fiber reinforcing material and matrix material through a certain process, which has the advantages of light weight, high strength, good rigidity, corrosion resistance, etc. It is widely used in the fields of aerospace, automobile, sports equipment, and so on. The commonly used molding processes include the following five, which are prepreg molding, RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) molding, compression molding, winding molding and pultrusion molding.

RTM Molding

RTM molding is a molding process in which a resin matrix is injected into a mold, which penetrates into the carbon fiber reinforcement by vacuum or pressure, and is then cured.

1.Process Flow:

  • Preparation of molds: Design and manufacture of molds suitable for RTM forming.
  • Laying reinforcing material: lay the carbon fiber reinforcing material inside the mold.
  • Injection of resin: The resin matrix is injected into the mold by injection equipment.
  • Curing molding: Under a certain temperature and pressure, the resin matrix is cured to form carbon fiber composite products.

2.The Advantage

  • High molding efficiency: rapid molding can be achieved, shortening the production cycle.
  • Relatively low cost: high resin utilization and less waste.
  • Strong designability: Suitable for manufacturing large and complex structures.

3.The Disadvantage

  • High demands on the mold: the mold needs to have good sealing performance and thermal conductivity.
  • Strict process control is required: the resin injection and curing process needs to be precisely controlled.
